The President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), Egypt (April 2014-present)
Sakr had more than 15 years of cumulative experiences in high level management of Scince, Technology and Innovation, and served as acting president of ASRT, Vice president of ASRT, Executive Director of STDF (Science and Technology Development Fund), Head of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Division (NRC), and Co- founding director of Center of Scientific Excellence for Advanced Sciences (NRC). Saker got his PhD in Plant Biotechnology from Faculty of Science, Tanta University, Egypt in 1995 (most of the experimental work was carried out in Pavia University, Italy) and professorship in Plant Biotechnology in 2006.
Sakr has received the State prize for Scientific Encouragement in Advanced Biotechnology (1999), National Research Center prize for Scientific Encouragement in Biology (1998), National Research Center prize for Scientific Excellence in Biotechnology (2009), and was chosen as the scholar of the year (2019) by the Association of Egyptian American Scholars. He had more than 130 publications, three books (In Arabic), three chapters in co-authored books (Springer), more than 10 post doc fellowships in USA, Italy, India and Germany, and more than 10 National and International research grants before joining STI management in Egypt in 2007.
Sakr is serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Elsevier/Springer) since 2010, and the Arab Journal of Scince, Technology and Innovation Policies since 2020. He also serving as elected vice president of some International Organizations, such as SESAME, NAM and the secretary general of Arab Association of Biotechnology, Fedration of Arab Scientific Research Councils, Arab League. On the national level, Sakr was serving as member of BOD, BOT and Councils of many universities and Research Institutions including for example, Cairo, Tanta and King Salman Int. University, Zewail, E-JUST, NRC, SARTA, EPRI, ERI, ARC, ADP, etc.
