Professor Akram Soliman is the Dean of Port Training Institute, and a Professor of Coastal Engineering and Port Planning, Construction and Building Department, College of Engineering and Technology, at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport.
Born in 1969 in Alexandria, he graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Alexandria in 1991. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in 1998, University of Alexandria, Egypt, and his BhD degree in 2004, School of Civil Engineering, University of Nottingham, UK.
Professor Soliman first joined the Arab Academy in 1997 as a teaching assistant in the Construction and Building Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Technology. In April 2008, he became an Associate Professor of Coastal Engineering and Port Planning, and then appointed his position as Dean, Port Training Institute, AASTMT on October 2008.
Among his many appointments, professor Soliman is the Consultant Engineer of Harbors Planning, Navigation and Shore Protection. He is also a member of the Peer Reviewer Committee of the Journal of Marine Policy (JMP), and the International Associations of Maritime Universities Conferences (IAMU).
Being a veteran in his domain, Professor Soliman conducted many postdoctoral researches in Coastal and Ocean Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering, Texas A&M University, Texas, USA. He joined the coastal research group and worked on numerical modelling of various turbulent and complex near-shore hydrodynamic problems.
He has published many studies and journals; participated in numerous conferences as a valued speaker, and had his share in several training courses as well.
Aside from participating in conferences, Professor Soliman has been portraying success in organizing events since 2008, being the Chairman of the organizing Committee of "MARLOG", the International Conference on Maritime Transport and Logistics, the 25th International Conference on Seaports and Maritime Transport "Seaports and Maritime Transport: Retrospective and Perspective" and the 26th International Conference on Seaports and Maritime Transport "Integration for Better Future".
